The Brief:

WWF-UK launched a flagship new walking series in 2023, designed to inspire people to get outdoors and refresh their connection with the nature on their doorstep, and to take action and raise funds to bring their natural spaces back to life. Gladiator Events was tasked with assisting the delivery of the event in its inaugural year, providing key equipment and expertise both in safe and impactful event operations, and in sustainable event practices.

The Event: A Mindful and Inspiring Walk in Beautiful Forests

Gladiator Events helped WWF to make their inaugural events in Epping Forest and Delamere Forest great successes. Walkers enjoyed beautiful routes through the forest, with WWF volunteers supporting them along the way. GE provided bike support both during build, de-rig and live event phases to keep emissions to a minimum, and provided waste-free water refill points. We provided infrastructure for the full event, allowing WWF to minimise expenditure in this critical inaugural year. We produced zero waste from our route marking, exclusively using re-usable signage along with re-usable cable ties, saving up to 5,000 of cable ties going to landfill, and we ensured that the minimal waste produced from the event was disposed of with zero waste to landfill.

The Result: A Future Flagship Series

WWF was delighted with the series outcome, with target fundraising figures achieved and crucially with a green light to continue to grow the event series in 2024. We will be working with WWF to deliver 5 amazing Great Wild Walks events in 2024, working collaboratively with the charity to make the new and existing sites a success, and collaborating with the WWF sustainability team and our B Corp community to maximise sustainable event practices.
