The Brief: Growing an existing Private Trek to a Public Mass-Participation Trek

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices were looking to develop their existing Pier to Pier trek, which for two years had been put together for a private Corporate group. They wished to make the event open to the public and to increase attendee numbers and income.

The Event: The Pier to Pier Trek 2022

We made numerous changes to the 2022 trek, including:

  • Creating a finish area with a hot meal for all participants, music and a celebratory atmosphere.

  • Creating a self-guided trek, with route markers along the whole route, road crossing management and marshals at key points.

  • Creating route guides for all participants including interesting information about the history and flora and fauna of the area.

  • Managing all Health & Safety aspects of the trek including Cut-Off and Drop-Out procedures, Medical cover and evacuation procedures.

The Result: Exceeding of all Targets and Growth of the Series

The 2022 event was a huge success, bucking the trend of mass participation events in 2022 by almost doubling its target numbers and fundraising amounts. Feedback from the event was fantastic and we are delighted to be introducing a second trek to the series in 2023.

Your team were absolutely amazing and we had so many comments from the walkers about the incredible organisation (lots of feedback about how the signage was second to none!) Thank you so much to you all!
