The Brief: Growing an existing Private Trek to a Public Mass-Participation Trek
East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices were looking to develop their existing Pier to Pier trek, which for two years had been put together for a private Corporate group. They wished to make the event open to the public and to increase attendee numbers and income.
The Event: The Pier to Pier Trek
We have delivered the route planning and on the day route operations for the Pier to Pier treks for the last four years. The series includes two challenges, a 32-mile trek in Norfolk and a 16-mile trek in Suffolk, each designed to offer a memorable and well-supported experience for participants.
Our delivery covers all aspects of route management, including full Health & Safety planning, clearly defined cut-off and drop-out procedures, medical cover and evacuation planning, as well as the coordination of route markers, marshals and rest stop locations. All participants finish their journeys at the pier, where they are welcomed with fish and chips, providing a memorable and celebratory end to the trek.
In 2025, the series expanded with the introduction of the Mini Pier to Pier, allowing families to take part in a shorter route around Southwold and finishing alongside the 16-mile trekkers. This created a more inclusive event and widened the appeal to new audiences.
The Result: Exceeding of all Targets and Growth of the Series
The 2022 event was a huge success with positive feedback and record fundraising amounts. We designed a second trek in Suffolk as well as a family trek. The 2025 events were a success, despite the postponement due to weather warnings. EACH raised a total of £69,000 and had over 250 participant sign-ups. We’re delighted to continue working on the events and look forward to the growth in 2026 and beyond especially with the Mini Pier to Pier.
“Your team were absolutely amazing and we had so many comments from the walkers about the incredible organisation (lots of feedback about how the signage was second to none!) Thank you so much to you all!”
