The Brief: Creating a New Obstacle Race Event to engage new and existing audiences

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA) were looking to introduce a brand-new mass-participation fundraising event designed to attract a broad audience, including families, first-time fundraisers and those looking for a fun, physical challenge. The aim was to design and deliver an iconic, family-friendly obstacle event that would engage both existing and new supporters of the charity, while boosting fundraising and awareness amongst supporters, celebrating active lifestyles and fostering engagement.

The Event: A Seaside Event for All

Seaside Scramble was designed as a 5km obstacle event, made up of two 2.5km laps around Baiter Park in Poole. The course involves eight fun obstacles, themed around water, agility and inflatable elements, ensuring the challenge felt inclusive and achievable for a wide range of abilities. Alongside the physical challenge, the route was deliberately designed to create key ‘touch-points’ where participants could engage with DSAA’s work and mission, helping to connect the fun of the event with the vital impact their fundraising supports.

The Result - Strong foundations for future delivery

While Seaside Scramble did not take place in 2025, the work undertaken has created a clear and robust framework for the event’s future. With a relaunch this year, Seaside Scramble has strong potential to grow into a successful and distinctive fundraising event for DSAA. We are looking forward to delivering Seaside Scramble in 2026, building on the planning from 2025 and bringing this exciting challenge to life.
