COVID-19 Update

Unfortunately due to the uncertainty related to COVID-19, Birmingham St. Mary’s Hospice will not longer be running Chocolate Obstacle Rush in 2020. We hope to be back operating the event in 2021 with our new event safety measures in place. Watch this space and follow our Instagram and Facebook pages for more information.

The Brief: A Facelift for an Existing 5km Run

Birmingham St. Mary’s Hospice have been operating a few successful ‘Chocolate 5k’ runs for several years in the Birmingham area. They approached us in 2017 as they were keen to give their 2018 a facelift, to increase attendee numbers and to encourage repeat participation. Budgets were limited so we needed to get creative!

The Event: An Obstacle Twist

We suggested keeping the core event the same but giving it an extra twist by adding in some fun obstacles along the way. The Chocolate Obstacle Rush was born! We agreed to trial this new concept at the Cofton Park version of the event. The event involves a varied 5km run around Cofton Park with 8 fun obstacles along the way, suitable for children from 12 and above.

Gladiator Events also introduced a new route signage system which dramatically improved the route signage from previous years. This allowed us to plot a more varied and fun route, making full use of all the natural features and obstacles around the park.

The Result: Fantastic Feedback

Birmingham St. Mary’s Hospice successfully attracted record numbers to their event in 2018 and 2019. A particular highlight is the giant slide heading straight down towards the finish line! With chocolate at the end, of course!
