Last weekend, our team headed to the iconic landscape of Northern Ireland to deliver Trek26 along the Giant's Causeway for Alzheimer's Society. It's the kind of setting that stops you in your tracks, and it made for a really memorable event for everyone who took part.
This is the first year we’ve taken the multi-event series across to Northern Ireland and it was fantastic to see it so well supported, with over 1000 participants signed up and over £500,000 raised to date, a staggering amount that will have a huge impact on the charity’s essential work.
A new event location always comes with a healthy dose of challenges. With two event controls and a very exposed coastline, we had our eyes firmly on the weather forecast in the run-up, and the wind during set-up certainly made life interesting. Conditions on the live event day were wet and this tested both the trekkers and the team, with safety and welfare at the front of our minds at all times. We also had to coordinate a road closure, which is always something we approach carefully, mindful of the impact on local communities.
Some of our dedicated but damp GE crew… (we promise they are usually smiling!)
We were delighted to see how supportive the local venues, suppliers and community were of the event overall.
After the event, leftover fruit from our rest stops was donated to three charities: Guildford Action, Vaughan House, and Oasis Food Pantry in Carlisle.
Elodie, our Event Manager on the ground, said: "The team were amazing and really pulled together. It was a challenging event to deliver logistically, but the support we had from locals and suppliers made a huge difference, and I'm really proud of what we achieved."
